Ryan’s experience as a neutral is grounded in two decades of Delaware litigation experience. He primarily litigated corporate and commercial disputes before the Delaware Court of Chancery, the Complex Commercial Litigation Division of the Superior Court, the Delaware Supreme Court, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. He also handled matters involving trusts and estates, intellectual property, and disputes with government entities.
As eDiscovery became central to modern litigation early in his career, Ryan developed extensive hands-on experience in preserving, collecting, producing, and litigating issues concerning electronic discovery. Notably, in 2009, he helped lead the discovery process in one of the most expedited corporate litigations in the history of the Court of Chancery with billions in dispute.
Ryan’s skill and judgment earned recognition from Chambers USA, which has described him as “an excellent practitioner,” “a very good communicator who has an ability to distill tricky legal issues into a very simple concept for the court,” and “knowledgeable, effective”— someone who “has the court’s respect.”
In 2016, the Court of Chancery appointed Ryan as the discovery magistrate in Partner Investments, L.P. v. Theranos, Inc., where he resolved disputes swiftly. Since then, Delaware courts and litigants have repeatedly turned to him, including in nearly 50 matters such as In re Facebook Inc. Derivative Litigation. As Chambers USA observed, “Ryan is uniquely trusted by the court to help parties facilitate discovery and resolve discovery issues.”
Building on this foundation, Ryan is regularly engaged as a mediator and arbitrator. Parties value both his decisiveness—honed as a discovery magistrate and arbitrator—and his “productive and cordial demeanor,” which helps litigants resolve even the most contentious disputes. With deep knowledge of Delaware law and a reputation for fairness, Ryan offers parties a unique and trusted alternative when selecting a neutral.
